It has been so cold in Sonoma County this January, I have been craving warm drinks. After experimenting for several weeks, I have come up with a yummy Paleo version. It is both spicy and warming.
Paleo Chocolate Chai Ingredients
1 can of coconut milk
1/2 can of water
1/8 cup of maple syrup
1 T cacao powder
1/2 T cinnamon
1/8 tsp ginger
1/8 tsp nutmeg
1/16 tsp cloves
Mix the first 3 ingredients in a small saucepan. Heat on medium. When the mixture is warm add the next 5 ingredients and stir until completely dissolved. Pour and enjoy!
You adjust the water to make it thicker or thinner depending on your taste. You can use raw milk instead instead of the coconut milk if your body can tolerate dairy! Feel free to substitute your sweetener of choice as well. And also be creative with your spices! Don’t try to increase the cocoa powder though, the ratio will be too much and there will be extra cocoa powder on the bottom of the pan which cannot be dissolved in the liquid.
